First Couch to 5k Practice

Do you recognize me not all made up?  I know, it's not pretty lol.

All day yesterday, I was dreading the first couch to 5k practice.  I'm not a runner.  I never have been. I don't even want to be "a runner", I just want to be able to run without dying.

My friend Kelly (red shorts) came with me.  I was happy to know someone going!  I had several other friends say they would come, but they didn't make it.  The trainer, Joe (a very attractive, fit older man) is not pictured since he was behind the camera.

We started with a 7 minute warm up walk.  Then 60 seconds of running followed by 90 seconds of walking.  The running/walking routine was repeated 6 times.  I think it was supposed to be repeated 8 times, but he cut us a break.  It was a total of 35 minutes running/walking.

Honestly, I did better than I thought.  I ran the first 4 sets completely, and the last 2 I walked a small part of the running set.  I was NOT the last one, so that felt really good.  Truthfully I expected to be dead last.

Everyone was really nice and I actually enjoyed myself.  I look forward to going back.  Unfortunately I can't go to Wednesday's group because of the Shiny Toy Guns concert, but Kelly and I are planning to run today and Thursday to make up for that.

I can't wait to get better at this!

  2. Great job putting yourself out there! I never thought I would like running either, but there is just something about it that gets my head on straight!

  3. So proud of you that you are trying something new. I started a Ease into 5k last year, it's taken me awhile (lots of repeats and breaks) but I'm on Week 8 and running 26 minutes straight. Keep up the great job!!!

  5. That's awesome! I'm doing my own walk/jog thing these days. I have a goal of eventually being able to run, but that will be after the band gets on board. Keep at it - you can do this!!

  6. Good for you! I have heard so many people do the C25K, but I've never seen someone blog about doing it with a group...I think that would be the way I'd be most likely to try it/stick with it! You've inspired me to reconsider looking into it. ;-) (I feel so self conscious being out there alone!) I'm so glad for you your friend showed up, too.

  9. Great job! That actually makes me way less afraid of C25K, which I have been thinking about doing. That seems pretty doable :)

Good for you for taking that step!
